Jonathan S. Berck has nearly two decades of experience in the life settlement arena. He provides regulatory guidance and trustee, escrow and administrative services to institutions and others in this highly specialized field. On occasion, he serves as outside general counsel to companies active in the space.
Jon’s clients have included hedge funds with portfolios of life insurance policies, purchased either directly or in irrevocable life insurance trusts (“ILITs”), for which he served as trustee – having up to $5 billion in face-value under his administration at any given time. He also advises life settlement brokers and market makers on regulatory issues, from life settlement legislation to employment disputes.
As trustee, Jon has been lead plaintiff in several landmark life settlement cases regarding insurable interest and discrimination against investors in cost-of-insurance rate setting.
In this field as in all other practice areas, Jon strives to introduce his clients to potential business partners and to facilitate any ensuing transactions.
